Gilbert J. Jakubowski Sr., 72, worked as auditor

Gilbert J. Jakubowski Sr., a retired auditor and former longtime Ednor Gardens resident, died Tuesday of colon cancer at a hospital in Virginia Beach, Va. He was 72.

Mr. Jakubowski was raised in Fells Point. He was a graduate of Patterson Park High School and served as a master sergeant in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954.

After graduating from a Baltimore accounting school, Mr. Jakubowski worked as an auditor at The Sun and Coca-Cola. He later took a job with Retail Grocery Inventory Specialist, and was transferred in 1979 to Virginia Beach. He retired in 2002.

He was a former communicant of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church in Waverly.

Mr. Jakubowski was an avid Colts and Orioles fan.

Services were private.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, the former Eunice K. Aker; a son, Gilbert J. Jakubowski Jr. of Jarrettsville; two daughters, Leslie K. Schaible and Julia A. Howerin, both of Virginia Beach; and five grandchildren.
