Blue Jays update

The Blue Jays, who finished in the basement of the American League East last season, 33 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees and 10 1/2 behind the third-place Orioles, have gotten off to a nice start, mostly because of a resurgent offense that was scoring 5.3 runs a game before last night. Shea Hillenbrand, acquired in the offseason, has helped offset the loss of slugger Carlos Delgado. Entering last night, he was leading the American League in hits (26) and was tied for first in runs (16) and batting average (.400). First baseman Eric Hinske led the Blue Jays with 13 RBIs to go along with a .315 average. Towers, tonight's starter, is 3-2 with a 4.75 ERA lifetime against the Orioles, his former team.
