UMBC edges Loyola in second overtime

Westervelt scores decisive goal in 9-8 victory

UMBC's Drew Westervelt scored in the second overtime to lift the Retrievers to a 9-8 victory against homestanding Loyola on Tuesday afternoon.

Loyola sophomore Dan Bauers scores twice in the final 1:43 of regulation to force overtime. The Greyhounds battled back from an early 3-0 deficit and an 8-5 hole in the fourth quarter.

Brendan Mundorf and James Hyland had two goals apiece for UMBC (6-6).

Matt Monfett scored two goals and added an assist for Loyola (4-6).

The Greyhounds head to Pennsylvania this Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest. UMBC returns to America East competition this Saturday at Stony Brook.
