County 4-H to hold lunch, fund-raiser and auctions

Carroll County 4-H will hold a fund-raiser luncheon and live and silent auctions May 1 at the Gamber Fire Hall, Route 32 and Niner Road.

The luncheon will begin at 12:30 p.m. and feature ham, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, desserts and beverages. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6 to 12, and free for younger than age 6.

Tickets are available in advance at the Carroll County Cooperative Extension Office on Smith Avenue in Westminster. Tickets will cost extra at the door.

The live and silent auctions will be held at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free.

On the block are a chartered fishing trip for four; golf outing for four; half a hog processed for the freezer; framed artwork; collectibles; gift certificates, discounts and merchandise.

Also up for auction are two framed, signed prints of illustrations by the late actor Fred Gwynne, who lived in the county. He was the author/illustrator of several popular children's books, including A Chocolate Moose for Dinner, The King Who Rained and A Little Pigeon Toad.

The prints were donated by his wife, Deb Gwynne.

MidAtlantic Farm Credit to return borrower funds

MidAtlantic Farm Credit will return more than $26 million to its membership borrowers as part of the cooperative lending organization's patronage refund program this month.

Returns were high in the first quarter, increasing the company's net income and return to borrowers.

MidAtlantic Farm Credit is an agricultural lender with more than $1.5 billion in loans to more than 10,000 member-borrowers.
