Long Reach to hold Kids' Clothes Swap on April 30

The Long Reach Community Association will sponsor a Kids' Clothes Swap from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30 on the parking lot of Long Reach Village Center.

Gently used children's clothes, toys, books and furniture will be available.

Admission is free to buyers. The rain date is May 7.

Spanish classes for children ages 3 to 6 will be offered from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursdays, May 5 to June 23 at Stonehouse, 8775 Cloudleap Court in Long Reach Village Center.

The cost is $84 for the eight-week class. A 5 percent discount is offered to those living on Columbia Association-assessed property.

An eight-week session of "Ballet with Cindee Velle," for ages 3 to adult, is to begin June 13. First Steps, Pre-ballet, Combinations, Classical Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Pointe and Modern classes will be offered on weekday afternoons and evenings and Tuesday and Saturday mornings.

Schools' Employee Chorus is to perform May 13

The Howard County school system's Employee Chorus will hold its 11th concert at 7:30 p.m. May 13 at Long Reach High School, 6101 Old Dobbin Lane.

Refreshments will be available. Admission is free.

Spring Fling party set at Other Barn on Thursday

The Columbia Teen Center will sponsor a Spring Fling party for teenagers and their little brothers and sisters from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at The Barn in Oakland Mills Village Center.

A disc jockey, pizza, arts and crafts, door prizes and grand prizes are planned.

Registration is not required. Admission is free.

La Leche League to meet at church Wednesday

La Leche League of Columbia PM will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Community Church, 9180 Rumsey Road (off Red Branch Road).

The topic will be "Baby and Mother's First Year."

Couples dining group to meet Saturday

The Howard County Dining Club, a new couples dining group, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Akbar Indian restaurant, 9400 Snowden River Parkway, Columbia.

The group will meet at the bar. Dinner will be at 7 p.m. The group plans to meet monthly, each time at a different restaurant. Each couple pays for its own meals.

Sellers sought: Howard County's Relay for Life, an overnight community fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society, will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30 at Hammond High School. Spaces cost $10 each, and sellers should provide a table. At least 50 percent of the profit must be donated to Relay for Life, which will be held June 10 and 11 at the school. Volunteers sought: The Thunder Hill Elementary School PTA is seeking volunteers for its spring carnival, Mayfest, to be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 7 at the school. Plant sale: Oakland Mills Community Association will hold a plant sale to raise money for the community's beautification projects. A large selection of annuals and hanging baskets will be available for purchase at discount prices. Plants orders will be accepted through tomorrow. Silk-painting: Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will offer a class in painting on silk for senior citizens from 10 am. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the east Columbia library senior center. Participants will have an opportunity to learn the basics of drawing or painting with a material that resists the dyes, what paints or dyes to use and how to prepare silk. Jazz club: The east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, sponsors a Jazz Club with Ken Jennings of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Sessions are held from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays. Students have an opportunity to learn to play jazz arrangements. Each participant must bring an instrument and make a commitment to be on time and ready to play. All instruments are welcome.
