Charles St. improvement group to meet

The Charles Street Improvement Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Union Memorial Baptist Church, 160 S. Center St., Westminster.

Plans will be finalized for a community cleanup day.

All members of the community are welcome.

Winters Mill to offer AP session Wednesday

Parents and students who have signed up for Advanced Placement classes at Winters Mill High School for 2005-2006 are invited to attend a "Meet the AP Teachers Night" at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

A presentation on the AP course program will be given, and parents and students can meet the teachers.

Westminster developing water-protection program

Westminster is developing a source water assessment plan and wellhead protection program to protect the city's drinking water customers and help the city plan for how to best protect the wells and groundwater recharge areas against contamination.

The city has retained a hydrogeological consultant, Advanced Land and Water Inc., to help with the plan.

The city is inviting residents to review the plan and attend a public workshop to discuss the draft plan. Copies of the draft plan document are available for download at www.westgov.com, or at City Hall and the Westminster library branch.

The public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Westminster fire company's banquet hall, 28 John St., to discuss the draft plan and other protection measures being considered.

Westminster students to stage `Cinderella'

Westminster High School Theatre will present Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella in the school auditorium at 1225 Washington Road.

Show times will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The show features seniors Meghan Reilly as Cinderella, Dru Tevis as the Prince, Rebekah Friedrich as the Queen, Andy Duffey as the King, April Murphy as the Fairy Godmother, and Alissa Thayer as Portia.

Junior Will Landon will play the stepmother, and sophomore Becky Dyson will be Joy.

General admission tickets are $7 at the door. Reserved seats are available for $10.

Girl Scouts to hold fifth-grade dance Friday

Girl Scout Cadette Troop 502 and Senior Troop 112 are sponsoring a fifth-grade spring dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at Westminster United Methodist Church social hall.

Admission is $5, plus a canned or dry food item. A disc jockey, food and door prizes will be featured.

Flower and Jazz Festival to be May 7 in Westminster

Westminster City Recreation will hold the annual Flower and Jazz Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 7 on Main Street, plus a one-mile fun run/walk at 8 a.m. at City Park.

The fun run/walk will be for all ages. Late registration will open at 7:30 a.m. Advance registration will be taken at the Longwell Avenue family center. Entry fee is $10 per person or $15 per family.

Hydrant flush Wednesday in Hampstead

The Hampstead Public Works Department will flush fire hydrants beginning at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Flushing stirs up sediment that discolors the water. Residents should run taps until water is clear before using it for cooking, drinking or washing.

Wesley United Methodist to serve supper Saturday

Wesley United Methodist Church will hold a fried chicken and baked ham supper from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the church hall, 3239 Carrollton Road, Hampstead.

The menu will include green beans, corn, applesauce, coleslaw, potato salad, rolls, cakes and beverages.

Tickets are $10 for age 12 and older and $4 for ages 5 to 11, and free for younger than age 5.

A bake table will benefit church youth programs.

Trinity church to present group Soul'd Out to Jesus

Trinity United Church of Christ's youth group will present the Southern gospel Christian rock band, Soul'd Out to Jesus, at the 10:45 a.m. April 24 worship in the sanctuary at 3229 York St., Manchester.

Members of the youth group will conduct the service, and the band will give a mini-concert.

Lazarus Lutheran to hold 14th annual hymn sing

Lazarus Lutheran Church will hold its 14th annual hymn sing, "Sing His Praises," at 7 p.m. April 24 in the sanctuary at 5101 S. Church St., Lineboro.

A bells, organ and piano prelude will begin at 6:45 p.m.

The Rev. Bud Kibbe will be song leader. The hymn sing will feature soloists, choirs, quartets, ladies groups, an instrumental ensemble and trumpet soloist.

Basket lottery to support North Carroll High athlete

A basket lottery will be held next month to support a North Carroll High School student who was chosen to play volleyball in Hawaii over the summer.
