Merrick pitches Fallston past North Harford in baseball, 7-2

Fallston's Chris Merrick pitched a complete game as the No. 14 Cougars (8-2, 5-1) earned a 7-2 victory over Harford County rival and eighth-ranked North Harford in an Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference baseball game yesterday.

Merrick (4-0) had six strikeouts with three walks and no earned runs.

Merrick held the host Hawks (8-2, 3-2) hitless until Kevin Jubb's infield single in the sixth inning.

The Hawks led 2-1 after two innings on two unearned runs.

No. 1 Calvert Hall 9, Loyola 2: Joe Velleggia's fourth-inning grand slam to right field put the game out of reach as the Cardinals (15-1) defeated the visiting Dons (3-7).

Boys lacrosse

No. 3 Boys' Latin 14, No. 11 Severn 9: Brett Weiss scored three times and had three assists for the Lakers (11-0), who built a 4-1 halftime lead before the teams' combined, 18-goal second-half battle.

Girls lacrosse

Hereford 9, No. 7 Dulaney 5: Caitlin Green and Mary Wittelsberger each had three goals as the host Bulls (4-4) handed the Lions (5-1) their first loss of the season.
