Baltimore County police are searching for a mentally challenged man from the Franklin area who went missing last Saturday morning, authorities said today.

According to police, 52-year-old Gary Michael Thomas of the 3600 block of Lockwood Road was last seen at a Shell gas station in the 8800 block of Liberty Road.

Known as "Uncle Mike" to his friends, Thomas has the mental capacity of an 8-year-old, authorities said. They described him as black, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 220 pounds, with short, black hair and brown eyes.

The night of his disappearance, Thomas went dancing at D'Joint Bar and Restaurant in the 5600 block of Liberty Road as he did every Friday night, investigators said. After 2 a.m., he left the bar and rode with a friend to the gas station. He was not seen or heard from since.

Thomas was wearing a white dress shirt and tie, a brown tweed sports jacket and brown pants.

Anyone with information about Thomas' disappearance is urged to call Baltimore County police at 410-307-2020.
