THE QUESTION: WHAT PERCENTAGE OF CARROLL COUNTY'S WORK FORCE LEAVES THE COUNTY EVERY DAY?

Of those people who work outside their homes, 62 percent commute to jobs outside of Carroll County, according to a commuter survey commissioned by the local Department of Economic Development in 2002.

Most of those workers were headed to jobs in Baltimore County (20 percent) and Baltimore City (13 percent).

The remaining 38 percent who work outside their homes held jobs in Westminster (50 percent), Hampstead (10 percent), Eldersburg (9 percent) and Sykesville (7 percent).

Ninety-five percent of those employed outside their homes said they drive to work.
