Hospital offering a free, one-day CPR course

Howard County General Hospital will offer a free, one-day community cardiopulmonary resuscitation course from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hammond High School, 8800 Guilford Road.

The course, an American Heart Association program, will offer hands-on training for people who may encounter an emergency. The class does not satisfy requirements for certification. Participants will learn one-person CPR and techniques to remove airway obstructions.

PTA at Thunder Hill seeks carnival volunteers

The Thunder Hill Elementary School PTA is seeking volunteers for its spring carnival, Mayfest, to be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 7 at the school.

The event draws students, parents, alumni and members of the community. Teen volunteers are needed to assist with running the carnival; they will receive credit toward their community service requirement. Written verification and a free lunch will be provided.

Oakland Mills schedules a benefit plant sale

The Oakland Mills Community Association will hold a plant sale to raise money for the community's beautification projects.

A large selection of annuals and hanging baskets will be available for purchase at discount prices. Plants orders will be accepted through April 18. Impatiens, geraniums, begonias, marigolds, petunias and other varieties will be available.

Plants will be available for pickup or purchase from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 30 at The Other Barn in Oakland Mills Village Center, 5851 Robert Oliver Place.

Garden revitalization set as topic Thursday

The Oakland Mills Community Association will sponsor a presentation by a master gardener, "Revitalizing Mature Gardens," at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at The Other Barn, in Oakland Mills Village Center, 5851 Robert Oliver Place.

The talk will focus on rejuvenating overgrown and aging gardens. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free, but registration is required.

"Stamping with Gina," a chance to create handmade greeting cards with a professional look, is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 19 at The Other Barn.

The cost is $10 and a $4 materials fee.

Sellers sought: Howard County's Relay for Life, an overnight community fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society, will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30 at Hammond High School. Everyone is invited to sell. Spaces cost $10 each, and sellers should provide a table. At least 50 percent of the profit must be donated to Relay for Life, which will be held June 10 and 11 at the school. Debra Wilkenloh, 410-997-8700.
