Blast tonight

April 09, 2005|By Sandra McKee

Matchup: Blast (15-19) vs. Kansas City Comets (14-20)

Site: Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Mo.

Time: 8:35

Radio: WCBM (680 AM)

Outlook: The Comets had won two straight before losing, 4-3, to Cleveland on Thursday night. Like the Blast, they are trying to make the playoffs and to avoid finishing last in the regular-season standings. The last time a team finished last in the standings the year after winning the league title was 1993-94, when the league was known as the National Professional Soccer League. That year, Kansas City followed its championship season with a 14-26 record. The Blast is down to five games in which to avoid the same embarrassment. The Comets hold a 2-1 edge over the Blast this season and are led by Vlatko Andonovski, who produced nine points in those three games. The Blast will be missing only those players who are out for the season after surgery - Denison Cabral, Adilson De Lima and Carlos Garcia (knees) and Marcos Chantel (groin).
