ATHLETICS UPDATE

Anyone recognize this rotation? Tim Hudson was traded to the Atlanta Braves, and Mark Mulder went to the St. Louis Cardinals in a deal that netted Haren. The Big Three is down to Zito, the former Cy Young Award winner who has a 0.63 ERA in 28 1/3 career innings at Camden Yards. Zito was 2-2 with a 3.46 ERA in 26 innings this spring. Harden was 3-1 with a 5.57 ERA in 21 innings, and Haren was 2-2 with a 5.59 ERA in 29 innings. They're throwing to a new catcher, Jason Kendall, formerly of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Eric Chavez batted .386 with three homers, 17 RBIs and a .632 slugging percentage. Eric Byrnes, the subject of trade rumors all spring, had six homers, 18 RBIs and a .577 slugging percentage. The A's were 15-18 this spring. They went 7-0 against the Orioles in 2004, the sixth straight year they've won the season series.
