Blast today

Matchup: Blast (13-19) vs. Philadelphia KiXX (19-14)

Site: Wachovia Spectrum, Philadelphia

Time: 1:05 p.m.

Radio: WCBM (680 AM)

Outlook: Doubleheader weekends for both teams should favor the Blast today because the KiXX played last night in St. Louis, winning, 7-3. But the pressure is now much greater on the Blast after losing to the Cleveland Force, 7-3, Friday night. The two-time defending MISL champion Blast is fighting for its playoff life, 4 games behind Cleveland and St. Louis for the fourth and final playoff spot, with seven games remaining. In contrast, the KiXX are in second place and almost assured of a playoff spot. Philadelphia holds a 5-2 edge in the season series with the Blast, with the KiXX winning, 9-6, in their previous meeting, March 19. Discipline-related roster changes and injuries have hurt the Blast. Three players are out for the season after knee surgery and the team's leading scorer, Chile Farias, was traded to St. Louis two weeks ago.
