HCC teacher qualifies for championship skating event

Claudia Moessinger Brown, 28, has qualified for the Championship Adult Gold Freestyle event at the U.S. Adult National Figure Skating Championships.

Brown qualified by placing second out of 11 in the recent Eastern Sectional Championships at Chelsea Piers Ice Rink in New York. The top four skaters from the East Coast, West Coast and Midwest qualify for the championship event at Adult Nationals, which will be held April 14 in Oakland Park, Kan.

Brown is a native of Street and a 1994 graduate of North Harford High School. She teaches speech fundamentals and English composition at Harford Community College and teaches figure skating at Ice World in Abingdon.

Brown has been skating since 1996 and is coached by Dan Kuhn and Karl Kurtz. Her program, skated to a medley from On the Town, was choreographed by Lisa Bell.
