Orioles set 25-man roster

DuBose, Nivar optioned to Ottawa

The Orioles today announced a series of roster moves that set their roster at the 25-player limit to begin the 2005 season.

The Orioles optioned left-handed pitcher Eric DuBose and infielder/outfielder Ramon Nivar to Triple-A Ottawa. They also reassigned right-handed pitcher Jay Witasick and infielder Enrique Wilson to minor league camp.

On Friday, the club placed three players on the disabled list. Pitcher Kurt Ainsworth (right shoulder surgery), pitcher Jason Grimsley (ligament replacement surgery) and outfielder Val Majewski (left shoulder surgery) were each placed on the 15-day disabled list. All three players are expected to miss most of the season.

The 25-man roster:

Pitchers (12): Rick Bauer-rhp, Erik Bedard-lhp, Daniel Cabrera-rhp, Bruce Chen-lhp, Jorge Julio-rhp, Steve Kline-lhp, Rodrigo Lopez-rhp, John Parrish-lhp, Sidney Ponson-rhp, Steve Reed-rhp, B.J. Ryan-lhp, Todd Williams-rhp.

Catchers (2): Geronimo Gil , Javy Lopez.

Infielders (6): Jay Gibbons, Chris Gomez, Melvin Mora, Rafael Palmeiro, Brian Roberts, Miguel Tejada.

Outfielders (5): Larry Bigbie, Luis Matos, David Newhan, Sammy Sosa, B.J. Surhoff.
