Slayton House to screen `The Thin Man'

Slayton House in Wilde Lake Village Center will continue its Marvelous Movies and More film series with a 1934 film, The Thin Man, at 7:30 p.m. April 15.

Based on a novel by Dashiell Hammett, the film stars Myrna Loy and William Powell.

Dessert and coffee will be available after a short discussion of the film.

The cost is $7; $6 for senior citizens and students. Seating is limited. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.

Open Mic Poetry Night for ages 11-15 set April 12

The central library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will sponsor an Open Mic Poetry Night, for youths ages 11 to 15, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 12.

Participants will have a chance to share their poems or favorite works.

Registration begins Tuesday at the branch.

Girl Scouts to hold yard sale April 23

Girl Scout troops from west Columbia will hold a yard, art and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23 on the parking lot behind Hawthorn Center in Hickory Ridge village, 6175 Sunny Spring.

The proceeds will be donated to tsunami victim relief efforts.

Town Center Yard Sale is to be held April 30

Town Center Community Association will sponsor its annual Town Center Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to noon April 30 at Vantage Point Park on Vantage Point Road.

The sale, which is free to sellers, will be advertised in local publications. Reservations are required.

Seeking artisans, vendors: Wilde Lake Community Association is seeking artisans to participate in its juried craft fair, part of the Taste of Wilde Lake, to be held from noon to 4 p.m. May 21 in Wilde Lake Village Center. Scrabble: Slayton House, in Wilde Lake Village Center, will offer drop-in Scrabble for ages 18 and older from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, this week through June 7. Parents, tots: Town Center Community Association will offer Parents and Tots Play Groups, starting April 5. A session for children ages 6 months to 24 months is to start April 5; for ages 2 to 4 years, April 6; and ages 6 months to 4 years, April 7. The 10-week sessions are held from 10 a.m. to noon at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road. The cost is $25 for Columbia residents; $27.50 for nonresidents. Bridal showcase: Town Center Community Association will hold a Bridal Showcase from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 17 at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road.
