March 25, 2005

A late-evening fire on Main Street in Ellicott City began in March 1966 in the workshop and storage area of the Ritchie Distributing Co., which built cabinets, kitchen countertops and other products.

The building, on Columbia Pike near the corner of Main Street, was badly damaged, and the adjacent Taylor Furniture buildings received less severe smoke and water damage.

The fire was brought under control by fire companies from Ellicott City, Clarksville, West Friendship, Elkridge and Halethorpe.
