Barbara Lemley McCann, a former biochemist who became a homemaker, died of cancer Sunday at her Towson home. She was 58.

Born Barbara Lemley and raised in Waynesburg, Pa., she earned a bachelor's degree in 1968 from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. She worked as a biochemist at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh before her 1977 marriage to Dr. Barton C. McCann.

Mrs. McCann was found to have Hodgkin's disease in 1977, and later non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was diagnosed.

"Never one to give up hope or complain about her burden, she served as an inspiration to all who witnessed her unfailing bravery over many years," said Dr. McCann, a retired Baltimore physician.

Mrs. McCann enjoyed pottery and fabricating stained-glass lamps. She also liked to read, cook and entertain.

She was an active member of Towson United Methodist Church, where services were held yesterday.

Survivors also include three sons, Daniel Chava McCann and Michael Lemley McCann, both of Towson, and Tu Nguyen of Annandale, Va.; two daughters, Minda E. McCann and Mary C. McCann, both of Towson; her parents, Dr. Kenneth and Mary Lemley of Waynesburg; two sisters, Dr. Diana Lemley Shay of Pittsburgh and Susan Carson of Waynesburg; and three grandchildren.
