All-county Boys Indoor Track

Performer of the Year

Jason Allen, Mount Hebron

Allen, who introduced himself by clearing 6 feet, 3 inches in the high jump at the Howard County Winter Track Festival, posted victories in the high jump (6-0) and the long jump (21-3) at the county championships.

After winning the high jump (6-1) and finishing second in the 300 at the Class 3A-2A West regional meet, the junior repeated that feat at the state championships.

He cleared 6-2 in the high jump to collect his first state crown.

Coach of the Year

Phil Johnson, Glenelg

Despite graduating team stalwarts like Drew Graybeal and Dan Sagmiller, Johnson and the Gladiators continued to churn away at practice and at meets.

Repeating as county champions was a nice validation for the program, and capturing its second straight Class 2A-1A East regional crown put Glenelg on the map.

But the Gladiators broke the ceiling by taking the state title.

The championship is the school's first since 1992.
