Performer of the Year

Katie Herstch, Winters Mill

Last season's county Performer of the Year hardly let up this winter. After winning three county crowns last year, the junior won gold twice at the county championships, taking the 800 in 2 minutes, 34.96 seconds and the 1,600 in 5:22.72.

Hertsch won both events (2:34.9 in the 800 and 5:38.2 in the 1,600) in the Piedmont Division of the Monocacy Valley Athletic League championships.

After posting a victory in the 800 (2:30.3) and finishing second in the 1,600 at the Class 2A-1A West regional meet, Hertsch placed second in the 800 and third in the 1,600 at the state championships.

Coach of the Year

Winters Mill successfully defended the county title it claimed last season, outpacing the field by 36 points.

The Falcons also captured their first Monocacy Valley Athletic League Piedmont Division crown before finishing third and sixth at the Class 2A-1A West Region and state championships, respectively.
