Performer of the Year

Garnell Hall, Mt. St. Joseph

The junior rose from obscurity to register a season that has drawn national attention.

Hall went undefeated in the 300, opening the season by taking the event in 35.11 seconds at the Metropolitan Athletics Congress Holiday Classic and capping it with a win in 35.67 at the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championships.

Although Hall finished third in both the 200 and the 400 at the University of Kentucky High School Invitational, his times of 22.13 in the 200 and 49.71 in the 400 rank 20th and 33rd in the nation, respectively, according to Dyestat.com.

Coaches of the Year

Jeffrey Tolson and Lutalo Bakari, Digital Harbor

Seventeen athletes might not sound like much, but it was a significant upgrade from previous years, when the numbers barely reached double digits.

Tolson and Bakari turned the Rams into a force as they placed second to perennial powerhouse Mervo at the Baltimore City championships.

Digital Harbor won the gold at the Class 2A-1A Central Region meet before finishing tied for sixth at the state championships.
