A program for Hispanic parents

Alianza de la Comunidad, an organization for the Howard County Hispanic community, is offering an active-parenting program for Spanish-speaking parents of adolescents, ages 12 to 18.

The workshops, which began last week, are being held from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays. Sessions are to be held tomorrow, and April 4, 11 and 18 at Running Brook Elementary School, 5215 West Running Brook Road.

An active-parenting program for Hispanic parents of children ages 2 to 12 will begin at 5:45 p.m. April 25 at Running Brook Elementary School.

Funding for the workshops is provided by the Horizon Foundation.

Juried craft fair set May 21 is seeking participants

The Wilde Lake Community Association is seeking artisans to participate in its juried craft fair, part of the Taste of Wilde Lake, to be held from noon to 4 p.m. May 21 in Wilde Lake Village Center.

The event includes free food, entertainment and children's activities.

The cost for vendors is $10 a space.

`Dear Mrs. Roosevelt' author to be at library

The central library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will present "Meet the Author of Dear Mrs. Roosevelt," a program with historian Cathy D. Knepper at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Her book, Dear Mrs. Roosevelt: Letters to Eleanor Roosevelt Through Depression and War, offers an intimate view of the era and the character of Eleanor Roosevelt through letters she wrote and received.

Drop-in Scrabble session to be held twice a month

Slayton House, in Wilde Lake Village Center, will offer drop-in Scrabble for ages 18 and older from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, March 29 through June 7.

Coffee will be available. Scrabble boards will be provided, or provide your own. Donations of games are welcome.

Classical ballet classes planned for spring break

High school and college students are invited to dance for a week during spring break with ballerina Misako Aoki-Oda at Misako Ballet Studio, in Harper's Choice Village Center.

Classes in classical ballet technique will be offered from noon to 1:30 p.m. tomorrow through April 1. All levels of dance and training are welcome. The cost is $10 for students.

Bridal Showcase slated at Historic Oakland

The Town Center Community Association will hold a Bridal Showcase from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 17 at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road.

Vendors and caterers will display food, floral designs, music and photographs. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
