Social Security discussion

Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin will hold a town hall meeting to discuss proposed changes to Social Security at 11 a.m. Monday at Elkridge Senior Center, 6540 Washington Blvd., Elkridge.

As a member of the House of Representatives' Ways and Means Committee, Cardin has introduced legislation to enhance opportunities for savings as a way to supplement Social Security income.

School club to present bay-health workshop

Centennial High School's Environmental Club will present a workshop on the health of the Chesapeake Bay and landscaping methods to protect the environment at 7 p.m. April 7 in the school cafeteria, 4300 Centennial Lane, Ellicott City.

Patty Yergey, a volunteer representative from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Andie Phillips, a Howard County master gardener, will speak.

A donation of $3 is suggested. Compact disc recordings of the master gardener presentation will be available for purchase. Proceeds will go to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Teenage relationships to be session topic

The Miller branch library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, will sponsor a program of discussions for students and parents about teen relationships, "Crushes, Going Out and Pressures to be `Sexy': Preteens and Parents Talk," from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 5.

Students and parents will meet separately and together. Discussion will be led by Laura Smit of the Howard County Coalition for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and Peggy Schultz of the Howard County school system.

A free dinner is included.

Registration, which is required, is to start Tuesday at the branch.
