Top county spellers to face off tonight at Howard High

March 18, 2005

Spelling bee champions from 38 Howard County public and private schools and one homeschooling association will compete at 7 o'clock tonight at Howard High School for a spot in the national event.

The Howard County Library and The Sun are sponsoring the first countywide spelling bee with the winner proceeding to the 78th Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington in May.

In December and January, thousands of fourth- through eighth-graders competed in schoolwide competition for a chance to advance to the county level.
