Orioles make first cuts of spring

Pitchers Maine, Penn, Loewen among nine players sent down

The Orioles today announced that they have sent nine players to their minor league camp in Sarasota, Fla., including top pitching prospects John Maine, Hayden Penn and Adam Loewen.

Maine was sent to Triple-A Ottawa, Loewen to Class-A Frederick and Penn was reassigned to minor league camp. The Orioles also optioned 1B Walter Young and CA Eli Whiteside to Ottawa following today's game against the Boston Red Sox. RHP Brian Forystek and RHP Marino Salas were also reassigned to the minor league camp

Following Sunday's game, the Orioles had optioned RHP Jacobo Sequea to Ottawa and reassigned LHP Tony Saunders to the minor league camp.

The moves reduced the roster at the major league camp to 45 players
