Two police officers shot during struggle with man
Two city police officers patrolling the Belair-Edison neighborhood were shot and wounded late last night, police said.
The Northeast District officers in plain clothes got out of an unmarked car about 11 p.m. to investigate a suspicious person standing on a porch in the 3200 block of Elmley Ave., said Agent Donny Moses, a police spokesman. As the officers approached, the man fled. The officers pursued and caught the man, but in the struggle to subdue the suspect, he pulled out a gun and fired several shots.
One of the officers was hit in the lower left leg and the other suffered a graze wound to the right hip.
The man escaped and was last seen on Bel Air Road, Moses said. The officers did not fire any shots.
Police did not release the names of the injured officers last night. They were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said, and their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
