Kindergarten signup happening this week

Registration for kindergarten for the 2005-2006 school year will be held tomorrow through Friday at all elementary schools in the county, including the new Parr's Ridge Elementary in Mount Airy.

Kindergarten enrollment is mandatory for children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30.

Parents need to present the following documents at registration:

A copy of their child's birth certificate or other legal document to verify the child's legal name and birth date.

Verification of residence, such as a public-utility bill or a lease agreement.

Address from which the child will be transported to school and brought to after school.

Parents with questions about kindergarten should contact the school in their attendance area.

For the 2006-2007 school year, a student must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2006.

Parr's Ridge Elementary will hold registration from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow through Friday, and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the front lobby of Mount Airy Elementary School, 102 Watersville Road.

The new school is expected to open in August. Parents with questions can call the school at 410-386- 1542. Ann Marie Blonkowski is principal.

Police will discuss Senior Week issues

The Guidance Department and the Success Group at South Carroll High School invite parents of seniors to attend presentations by the Ocean City Police Department.

Programs will be held as follows:

Tomorrow: 7 p.m. at Century High School, 355 Ronsdale Road, near Eldersburg.

Tuesday: 7 p.m. at North Carroll High School, 1400 Panther Drive, Hampstead.

The presentations will give parents an overview of Senior Week in Ocean City. Discussions about alcohol, drugs and the consequences for violations will be discussed.

All county high school parents are invited to attend either presentation.

Private pilot ground school to be offered

Carroll Community College will offer a Private Pilot Ground School this spring at its new Sykesville location in the Public Safety Education and Training Center.

Successful completion of the 40-hour course qualifies students to take the FAA private pilot written examination. Topics include aerodynamics, meteorology, navigation and aviation regulations.

Classes will be held from 6:25 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays starting tomorrow for 13 sessions; no classes will be held March 21 and 23.

The cost is $269, or $45 for Maryland senior adults.

Robotics team joins regional competition

The Carroll County Robotics Team will participate in the Chesapeake Regional Robotics Competition Thursday through Saturday at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.

Competition will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is free.
