BOYS

DeShawn Barrett

Patterson, wrestling

No wrestler in the state dominated his weight class more than Barrett, who pinned 29 of his 32 opponents. The 215-pound senior completed his unbeaten season with the Class 4A-3A state title last weekend by defeating Bowie's Zak Adomanis by default. He became the city's second state champion, joining Poly's Dennis Scott, a heavyweight champ in 1999.

Barrett's two-year record is 63-2 (57 pins). Among this season's other pins was one over region champ Josh Nutty of Lansdowne, who placed fifth at 2A-1A states. Barrett also decked Walt Whitman's Pat Lazear, a 215-pound region champ.
