Private pesticide training is available this month

Maryland Nutrient Management Regulations require that all people who own or operate agricultural land and apply any nutrient to more than 10 acres must hold an applicator voucher issued by the Maryland Department of Agriculture.

The Carroll County Extension Office will hold private pesticide training from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and March 16 at 700 Agriculture Center, Westminster.

Applicators are required to attend one two-hour training session every three years. Information: 410-386-2760.

Deep Run 4-H members win speaking awards

Members of the Deep Run 4-H Club recently won awards at the County Public Speaking Day.

Participants and their awards are: Jamie Lippy, first reserve champion, radio; Breanne Lippy, second reserve champion, radio; Corey Herdegen, blue, radio, and champion, prepared; Brittany Lippy, participation, pledge, and participation, prepared; Abigail Hester, second reserve champion, radio; Amanda Rasch, champion, poetry.

Also, Daniel Rasch, participation, poetry; Caitlin Moore, champion, dramatic; Kirsten Dahlberg, champion, poetry; Claire Yeager, blue, radio, and blue, extemporaneous; Catrina Yeager, participation, pledge; Esther Schott, blue, extemporaneous.

Four members made the county horse-bowl team: Caitlin Moore, senior; Olivia Wolfe and Amanda Rasche, intermediate; and Hannah Wolf, junior. Information: 410-386-2760.
