Medical center offering several exercise programs

Anne Arundel Medical Center will offer exercise programs in conjunction with Major Changes Inc. this month.

They include:

Joints in Motion, a program of gentle movement for patients before and after joint-replacement surgery, and for people experiencing joint, muscular, cardiovascular or neuromuscular limitations, from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Stretch, Tone and Balance, which begins with a full-body warm-up and progresses with toning exercises and the use of hand-held resistance equipment, from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

PACE, a program developed by the Arthritis Foundation in which gentle activities are used to maintain muscle strength, from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The program is not limited to people with arthritis. Participants must be ambulatory.

Forever Fit, which offers low-impact aerobics, light toning and gentle stretching exercises for mature people, from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

All classes will be held on the second floor of the Sajak Pavilion at the medical center's main campus in Annapolis. Registration: 443-481-4000.

Classes, support groups slated at North Arundel

North Arundel Hospital is offering the following services:

Free blood pressure screenings in the hospital's main lobby from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Sibling Preparation Class offered by Special Beginnings Birth and Women's Center from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 8. 410-787-4118.

Stroke Support Group discusses the effects of stroke on sexuality from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. The cost is $10. 410-787-4118.

Joslin Circle, a diabetes support group, meets to discuss issues regarding diabetes management from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 16. Reservations. 410-787-4940.

Joint School, a free educational session on preparing for, recovery from and the benefits of hip and knee replacement surgery, will be held at 4 p.m. March 16 in the Courtney Conference Center on the lower level of the Tate Center. Reservations. 410-553-8282.

North Arundel Hospital will offer free screenings and educational exhibits at its Arundel Mills storefront, between Entrance 4 and Jillian's:

A discussion on stroke and diabetes will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Neck and shoulder massages will be given from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Blood pressure and anemia screenings will be given from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 7.

Story time for parents and children will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. March 7.

Foot screenings will be given from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. March 8.

Computerized neck and back screenings will be given from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. March 11.

Blood pressure screenings will be given from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. March 14.

Blood pressure and lung capacity screenings will be given from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. March 17.

Foot screenings will be given from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. March 22.
