Laurence E. Punte, 61, wholesale beer salesman

Laurence E. Punte, a retired wholesale beer salesman, died of cancer Feb. 16 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. The Mount Airy resident was 61.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Catonsville Junction, he was a 1962 graduate of Catonsville High School. As a young man, he assisted his father in a family-owned gold-plating business in Southwest Baltimore and also worked for the old Dixie Cola Co.

Mr. Punte became a salesman and driver for Winner Distributing Co. in Baltimore and sold beer to taverns in Fells Point and other Southeast Baltimore areas for 30 years. He retired about five years ago.

He was an Orioles fan and coached his eight children in Little League baseball and at the Howard County Youth Program. He also enjoyed collecting beer mugs.

Plans for a memorial service were incomplete.

Survivors include four sons, Craig Punte of Mount Airy, Mark Punte of Baltimore, and Bruce Punte and Brandon Punte, both of Marriottsville; four daughters, Brianna Punte of Odenton, Brandy Clement of Marriottsville, Brenna Scribner of Woodstock and Brooke Punte of Elkridge; a brother, Charles Punte of Abingdon; two sisters, Anne Orthner of Annapolis and his twin, Joan Weimer of Manchester; and three grandchildren. His two marriages ended in divorce.
