U.S. funds for food, shelter assistance to be distributed

Carroll County will receive $29,395 in federal funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs.

A local board made up of members of the Circle of Caring Homeless Board will determine how the funds will be distributed among emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies.

Agencies receiving funds must be private nonprofit organizations or governmental entities, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination and demonstrate the ability to administer emergency food or shelter programs. Private organizations must have a volunteer boards.

Qualifying agencies are encouraged to contact Janet L. Boyd, Carroll County Department of Citizen Services, 10 Distillery Drive, Suite 101, Westminster 21157, for an application.

The deadline for applications is March 1.

Meeting set Thursday to discuss senior center

The Department of Citizen Services will hold an informational meeting on the new South Carroll Senior Center scheduled to be built on Mineral Hill Road.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Oakland United Methodist Church hall, 5971 Mineral Hill Road, Eldersburg.

County staff will present preliminary information, answer questions and address concerns from the public.

Snow date will be March 10. In the event of inclement weather, cancellation announcements will be made on radio station WTTR-AM 1470, and on Baltimore television stations.
