Paul Economides, 95, Greek Orthodox pastor

The Rev. Paul G. Economides, a former pastor of SS. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis, died of heart disease Tuesday at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The Annapolis resident was 95.

Born in what is now Istanbul, Turkey, he earned degrees at the School of Theology at the University of Athens in Greece and at Harvard Divinity School.

He served at churches in Passaic, N.J., Brooklyn, N.Y., Elkins Park, Pa., and Columbus, Ohio, before his six-year stay as pastor of the Annapolis church beginning in 1962.

From 1970 to 1988, he was a college chaplain at Georgetown University. After his retirement, he assisted at churches in Winchester, Va., and Landover until age 87.

An avid gardener, he also enjoyed reading and walking.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at SS. Constantine and Helen, 2747 Riva Road.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, the former Katherine Stratis; two sons, George Economides of Rockville and Basil Economides of Annapolis; a daughter, Urania Pappas of Holland, Pa.; and four grandchildren.
