Woman's term suspended after sex-offense conviction

A 40-year-old Reese-area woman received a suspended sentence and was ordered to register as a sex offender after being convicted yesterday in Carroll County Circuit Court of a sex offense against a 15-year-old boy last February.

Shelly Renee Kaltrider of the 2100 block of Woodview Road also received probation before judgment on a misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure, said Assistant State's Attorney Amy Blank Ocampo. In June, Kaltrider exposed her breasts to a 17-year-old boy at a house near Uniontown Road that she had been hired to clean.

Kaltrider was originally charged with assault and two counts of third-degree sex offense in incidents between Feb. 15 and Feb. 29 last year in Finksburg, where she was accused of having intercourse and oral sex with the 15-year-old, said Ocampo. The prosecutor recited an agreed-upon statement of facts yesterday as part of a plea agreement on one count of third-degree sex offense. The sex-offense conviction is a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Judge Michael M. Galloway suspended a one-year prison term on the felony conviction and ordered Kaltrider to complete a substance-abuse program and submit to testing to verify court-ordered abstinence from alcohol. She is to have no contact with the victims and must register for life as a sex offender. The defendant had been drinking alcohol in both cases, the prosecutor said.
