Winning poster contest entries to be displayed on transit buses

February 16, 2005

In partnership with Corridor Transportation and the Howard County Office of Public Information, the Columbia Association recently held an "Images of Freedom" poster contest in honor of Black History Month.

Columbia middle and high school students were asked to create artwork illustrating what the theme "Images of Freedom" meant to them. The five winning entries will be displayed on the sides of five Howard Transit buses through the end of the month.

Winners were Brian Ferrick of Wilde Lake High School; Lillian Yu of River Hill High School; and Kristen Klotz, Grace Nelson and Ashley Roland, of Harper's Choice Middle School.

Harper's Choice Middle School Principal C. Stephen Wallis, acting Vice Principal Tiffany Friend and art teacher Maxquesar Jones celebrated with the winners and their parents at a luncheon and awards presentation Saturday at Columbia Association headquarters.

One of the five buses to sport winning artwork was parked outside for parental photo opportunities.
