Gambrills girl severely injured as SUV flips

February 08, 2005|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A Gambrills girl remained hospitalized in critical condition yesterday after she was thrown from a sport utility vehicle that overturned during a weekend crash on Laurel Fort Meade Road in Laurel, Anne Arundel police said.

The 11-year-old, whose name has not been released, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center after the single-vehicle incident, which occurred about 12:45 p.m. Sunday, police said.

The SUV flipped twice after the driver, Wendy Ann Summers, 38, of Gambrills, swerved to avoid hitting another car. Summers and another passenger, Arthur Joseph Rosati, 44, also of Gambrills, were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Neither speed nor alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, police said.
