January 30, 2005

Richard John Fisher, owner of a dry-cleaning business for 40 years, died of cancer Monday at his Millersville home. He was 60.

Mr. Fisher operated Sparkle Cleaners, picking up and delivering dry cleaning to customers throughout Anne Arundel County and in neighboring communities.

"He was truly an independent contractor who literally didn't stop working until a few weeks before he died," said his wife of seven years, Mary Ann Fisher. "He was known all over the county."

A Mass of Christian burial was offered Friday at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church in Millersville.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Richard Fisher of Glen Burnie; two daughters, Michelle Watts of Pasadena and Kelly Schaffer of Millersville; two stepsons, Matthew Greer of York, Pa., and Michael Greer of Millersville; and eight grandchildren. A previous marriage to the former Carol Colburn ended in divorce.
