Two Baltimore men face possible life sentences after their convictions in federal court for a violent carjacking almost two years ago.

Jamaal Walker, 27, of the 2900 block of Reisterstown Road, was convicted by a jury Tuesday of carjacking, using a firearm and conspiracy. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 15.

Walker's co-defendant, Jeremiah Poole, previously pleaded guilty to carjacking and using a firearm and is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 4. Poole, 21, of the 2500 block of Druid Park Drive shot and wounded the carjacking victim, Edward Hawkins, according to testimony during Walker's trial.

Attorneys involved in the case said that two other suspects were convicted in state court. No information was available yesterday on those prosecutions.

During the early hours of April 16, 2003, Walker, Poole and two others lured Hawkins to a shopping center in Northeast Baltimore, according to prosecutors.

One of the men forced Hawkins from the driver's seat of his car at gunpoint, according to prosecutors, and he was driven to Randallstown. When they arrived, Hawkins was ordered to take off his clothes.

After the assailants searched Hawkins's vehicle, Poole shot Hawkins in the back and then drove from the area in Hawkins' car, according to testimony.

State and federal law enforcement agencies searched for Walker and Poole for nearly a year before they were arrested. Walker was taken into custody by Baltimore police in March.
