On January 19, 2005, at Baptist Medical Center-Beaches, MICHAEL VERNONBENNER, 62, of Neptune Beach. He was born February 3, 1942, in Baltimore, MD and served twenty years in the U.S. Navy and has been a government employee all of his life. Mike lived in Jacksonville and Neptune Beach over thirty years. He loved the Beaches living and never liked to "cross the ditch". He was a member of the Catholic Faith. He was a loving and thoughtful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Family members include his wife of 43 years, Phyllis; son, Mark (Windy) Benner, of Jacksonville; daughter, Debbie (Craig) Fields, of Neptune Beach; mother, Mary Benner, of Baltimore, MD; sister, Alice Parson, of Baltimore, MD and grandchildren, Lindsay, David and Kaylee Benner, all of Jacksonville. His father, Vernon Benner, predeceased him. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 P.M., Sunday (today), January 23, in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz, A Family Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 11 A.M., Monday, January 24, in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz, A Family Funeral Home with Reverend William A. Kelly of St. Paul's Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in his honor.
