All Broken Up

Without celebrity couple Brad and Jen to capture our attention, stargazers are struggling to find suitable replacements.

"You can tell they really love each other and their children, and they just seem very comfortable with themselves," she says.

But as with most other couples in the running for Brad and Jen's top spot, one partner - in this case, Will Smith - is the far bigger star.

Readers of CosmoGIRL! magazine "just love Reese Witherspoon [and husband Ryan Phillippe] like you wouldn't believe," says Susan Schulz, the teen magazine's editor-in-chief. "They have this marriage and these little kids, and they're so beautiful. I feel like Reese and Ryan could have a chance to enter Brad and Jen's place."

If only Phillippe could have his own Legally Blonde-type success, experts said.

"Ryan who?" Sigesmund says.

"They're both great actors, and they're both insanely beautiful, which was part of the electric success of Brad and Jen. But Ryan is nowhere near the success caliber of Brad," E!'s Casablanca agrees. "Reese and Ryan are poised to be the next Tom [Hanks] and Rita [Wilson] in reverse."

Tom and Rita. Kurt and Goldie. Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Here are star-studded couples who - unlike the dearly parted Jen and Brad - have somehow managed to withstand the scrutiny and pressure of being famous and in love. Why don't we look to these veterans for hope when the fantasy proves false?

Perhaps because they're just a little too old, Casablanca says. We want our Hollywood "It" couple to stir up images of "all the beautiful, uninhibited nooky we want to have," he says.

That's why - despite her amazing beauty, and his fame and wealth - Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas will never be "It."

"You look at them and think, `They must have nice chats by the fire with cocktails, looking at their Oscars,'" Casablanca says. "You don't think of them all hot and bothered, getting all mussy and sweaty just looking at each other."

And although actress Demi Moore has seemingly found the fountain of youth, she and boy-babe Ashton Kutcher will never measure up either.

"They can't be the next Brad and Jen," Sigesmund says. "Everyone's waiting for Demi and Ashton to break up."
