Panel OKs $350,000 to build fishing pier in Downs Park

The Maryland Board of Public Works has approved a $350,000 grant to build a fishing pier in Pasadena's Downs Park.

The 300-foot pier is expected to be completed next year as part of an overall renovation of the county park.

Downs Park, a 245-acre tract along the Chesapeake Bay, offers nature trails, playing fields and other recreational facilities.

Comcast airing greetings from service members

Comcast is airing holiday greetings through New Year's Eve in Central and Southern Maryland from 117 local military personnel stationed overseas.

The 30-second public-service announcements began airing Dec. 20 on Comcast Local Edition during breaks from CNN Headline News. The greetings will be shown in seven counties and Baltimore, with each corresponding to where the on-duty man or woman lives.

Announcements from 23 personnel from Anne Arundel County aired from Dec. 20 through Sunday.

American Red Cross helps 13 families affected by fires

American Red Cross volunteers assisted families affected by 13 fires that struck from Thursday to Monday throughout Anne Arundel County and Baltimore.
