Fire destroys home in Hampden

no one injured

Baltimore firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze last night that destroyed a house in the Hampden neighborhood but apparently caused no injuries.

The fire was reported just before 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of Dellwood Ave., off Falls Road, and firefighters arrived to see flames in the second-floor windows of the wood-frame house. With the second alarm called at 10:03 p.m., a total of about 65 firefighters were at the scene.

Two or three men, who had been in the house drinking, fled without injury, said Fire Department spokesman Kevin Cartwright. Firefighters found no one inside before being ordered to evacuate minutes later out of concern about its structural integrity.

The cause of the fire had not been determined.
