All-county Cross Country - Girls

December 17, 2004|By EDWARD LEE

Runner of the Year

Glenna Sullivan, Maryvale

Sullivan earned her fourth consecutive appearance on the All-County team and her second straight Runner of the Year honor for her consistency over the season. The senior never slipped out of the top 15 in five major invitationals and championships.

Sullivan took aim at what would've been a third Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland crown, but was a runner-up to Bryn Mawr sophomore Lauren Childs.

Coach of the Year

David Kreller, Loch Raven

Five years ago, the Raiders girls cross country program consisted of Kreller and a single runner. But that didn't discourage Kreller, nor did it keep him from beating the bushes for new recruits.

His perseverance paid off this season. Against two-time reigning Class 1A state champion Williamsport, the Raiders raced past the Wildcats and captured the school's first state crown in cross country.
