All-county Volleyball & Field Hockey

Player of the Year

Roberta Holehouse, CHEN

The home-schooled senior showed off a powerhouse net game, but she also had the strongest all-around game in the county. A 5-foot-7 hitter, Holehouse could pound the ball with power and accuracy, but she also played outstanding defense and aced the competition on 40 percent of her jump serves.

She had 322 kills, averaging 5.4 per game and hitting from all over the court. She led the 19-0 Bravehearts to the National Christian Home School Athletic Association title and the Maryland-D.C. Private Schools championship. An All-Metro first-team pick last season, Holehouse signed early to play at Penn State.

Coach of the Year

Katie Smith, Franklin

Many volleyball coaches build their teams around one or two stars, but Smith built hers with a group of solid, versatile players. That balance helped the Indians win their first Baltimore County championship in 32 years.

It all started with an upset of defending county champion Towson early in the regular season. During the regular season, the Indians (16-2) lost only three games - all to Dulaney, their only loss until Towson knocked them out of the regional playoffs.
