Runner of the Year

Carl Henn, Liberty

Henn earned his third All-County appearance by dominating county competition. The senior was near-perfect as he finished in the top 10 in eight of nine major invitationals and championships.

He won the MVAL crown in 17 minutes, 27 seconds and then took the county title in 17:02. Henn followed up those performances by placing third at the Class 2A West region meet and second at the states.

Coaches of the Year

Dan Jones and Bob Ward, Liberty

Liberty had a chance to sweep all four championships - the Monocacy Valley Athletic Legaue's Chesapeake Division, county, Class 2A West and state meets. Although the Lions slipped and finished second to Urbana for the MVAL crown, Liberty bounced back in grand fashion and collected the school's first county title - only the second time in 21 years that a school other than Westminster had won the championship.

Springboarding off that victory, the Lions won their second straight regional championship and successfully retained their state crown.
