Hometown: Baltimore

Current members: Mike Gittings, guitar, vocals; Chris Myers, guitar, vocals; Eric Hopkins, bass; Matt Scoggins, drums, backup vocals.

Founded in: January 2004

Style: Indie pop

Influenced by: The Kinks, Gram Parsons, Neil Young, Wilco, The Shins.

Notable: In college, lead singer Mike Gittings lived next to Carlos D. -- Interpol's bass player. We're impressed. Water School writes all its own music, and the band members have known each other since their high school days in Baltimore.

Quotable: Gittings on the band's name: "Chris [Myers] just had this vision of a school out on the water. I don't know what they'd teach out there. But we're tying to come up with a better story for that."

Check out Water School when it plays tomorrow at the Ottobar. Weird War and Brachiation are also billed. Doors open at 9 p.m. for this all-ages show. The show starts at 10 p.m. Tickets are $8. The Ottobar is at 2549 N. Howard St. For more information, call 410-662-0069 or visit www.theottobar.com.
