On December 7, 2004, GERALD J. UHLHORN, beloved husband of 50 years to C. Monica Uhlhorn, father of Victoria Shipley, Gerald Uhlhorn, Jr. and Joseph N. Uhlhorn, father-in-law of Craig Shipley, and grandfather of Andrew, Patrick and Anna Shipley, peacefully passed away from cardiac arrest at his home in Palm Beach Gardens. He was born on May 16, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Helen and Joseph Uhlhorn Sr. and brother of the late Joseph Uhlhorn, Jr. In 1951 Gerry received a Ph.B. from Loyola College in Baltimore, where he enjoyed serving as the President of the Dramatic Society, and circulation manager of the Greyhound Newspaper and Yearbook. He was a World War II Veteran. In 1984, Mr. Uhlhorn retired from the Federal Government, after a career of 30 years, serving in Personnel for such agencies as , Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff in the Pentagon, Army Materiel Command, Department of Transportation and the Defense Mapping Agency. While at DCSPER, Mr. Uhlhorn became President of the Toastmasters. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4054. Following retirement, Gerry became a docent at the Smithsonian Museum's National Portrait Gallery. After moving to Palm Beach County, Florida he became a docent at the International Museum of Cartoon Art. His humor, wit and passion for one-liners were his hallmark.
