REV. JOHN D. MULLIGAN, age 75, of Dayton, OH, died December 5, 2004, at Mercy Siena Gardens. Born June 25, 1929 in Cleveland, OH, son of the late Patrick and Elsie Mulligan, he was preceded in death by his brothers Thomas, Robert, Eugene, Patrick and William. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Hanrahan of Pepper Pike, OH; sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews as well as a number of very special personal friends. John attended Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland and entered the Society of Mary, professing vows on August 17, 1947. He was ordained to the priesthood on July 14, 1957. He taught at North Catholic High School, Pittsburgh and Colegio Ponceno, Ponce, Puerto Rico. After his ordination, he served as spiritual director at Marianist College, Dayton, theology instructor at the University of Dayton and editor of Mary Today magazine. He then served as assistant director of novices in Utica, NY and director of novices in Charlottesville, VA. After serving as spiritual director at the Marianist Seminary in Fribourg, Switzerland, he became rector of the Marianist Seminary in St. Louis, MO. In 1969, John was named Provincial Superior of the Province of New York. After a sabbatical year, he was appointed Director of the Jesuit Institute of Spirituality and Worship, Berkley, CA. He then served as assistant pastor and pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Sykesville, MD. He was appointed Director of Marianist Mission in Dayton from 1986 to 1998. After a sabbatical year, he returned as spiritual director of Marianist Mission and, subsequently, retired at Mercy Siena due to his health. John will be remembered as a man of great integrity, wisdom and reasonableness. Viewing will be held at Queen of Apostles Chapel, Mount St. John, 4435 E. Patterson Road, Saturday, Dec. 11 from 9 to 11 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial and interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery to follow immediately at Mount St. John. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marianist Mission, 4435 E. Patterson Rd, Dayton, OH 45430. Arrangements by Bradford, Connelly & Glickler.
