To our readers

December 09, 2004

Today's Plugged In section inside Business will be the last, after a run of six years in The Sun. This also means the discontinuation of the personal technology column that Sun staffer Mike Himowitz has written for nearly 20 years.

This is not a move we make happily or without great pause. Mike, who is The Sun's health and science editor, also has followed personal computing and related gadgets and services from virtually the infancy of the PC.

Our decision is the result of several factors.

The most significant is the loss of advertising support for personal technology products with the end of the dot-com boom. Most of the metropolitan newspapers that developed personal tech sections did so during the 1990s and have discontinued them in recent years.
