Goucher came up short in its bid for its first win of the season in women's basketball, losing to host Rutgers-Camden, 66-61, yesterday.

The Gophers (0-6) managed to trim a 22-point second-half deficit to five points, but the Scarlet Raptors (3-4) were able to hang on for the nonconference victory.

Goucher could not contain Rutgers-Camden's Megan Rulan, who finished with 25 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Katherine Leswing led the Gophers with 17 points and six rebounds.

Colleen Orton was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field in contributing 14 points to the Gophers' cause.

Howard 86, UMES 70: Despite having four players score in double figures, the Lady Hawks did not have enough offense to push them past the visiting Lady Bison.

UMES (2-6) was led by Toni Kennedy with 13 points. Qiana Cheatham had 11, and Erica Bennett and Ashley Chase 10.

Daisha Hicks led the Lady Bison (4-0) with 20 points.
